QRD SPARK N5 Q Button / HOME Key Not Working Troubleshooting Guide
The center Q button on the QRD SPARK N5 functions as the controller's HOME key. It is used to power on the controller, enter pairing or reconnection status, and perform certain system functions depending on the platform.
If the Q button does not respond, cannot connect to a console, or does not wake the system, the issue may be related to battery level, firmware status, pairing procedure, USB connection, or platform compatibility limitations.
Common Causes
Q button behavior can be affected by:
- Low battery or deep battery discharge
- Controller sleep or power state
- Incorrect pairing procedure
- Loose or charge-only USB-C cable
- Old Bluetooth pairing records
- Controller firmware version
- Interrupted or incomplete firmware update
- QRD BlackPill converter limitations on PS5
Quick Diagnosis Table
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Recommended Action |
|---|---|---|
| Q button does not turn on the controller | Battery is fully drained or deeply discharged | Charge with 5V/1A, PC USB, or PS4 USB |
| Q button works but cannot connect | Pairing issue or loose USB connection | Reconnect cable and repeat pairing |
| Q button cannot wake PS5 | Wake-up through BlackPill converter is not supported | Start PS5 first, then connect QRD SPARK N5 |
| Q button issue after firmware update | Firmware update may be incomplete | Reinstall or update firmware using Windows PC |
| Controller was paired before | Old pairing or mode conflict | Clear old pairing records and reconnect |
Issue 1: Q Button Does Not Turn On the Controller
If pressing the Q button does not power on the QRD SPARK N5, the battery may be fully drained.
Recommended Steps
- Connect the controller to a stable 5V/1A USB power source, PC USB port, or PS4 USB port.
- Charge the controller for at least 2 hours.
- Avoid incompatible fast-charging adapters during normal charging.
- After about 1 hour of charging, press and hold the Q button for at least 5 seconds.
- If there is still no response, try another USB-C cable and power source.
- If needed, perform a factory reset.

Issue 2: Q Button Works, But the Controller Cannot Connect
If the Q button activates the controller but the controller cannot connect to the console, the issue is usually related to pairing status, USB connection, or old Bluetooth records.
Recommended Steps
- Reconnect the USB-C cable and make sure it is firmly inserted.
- Use a reliable USB data and charging cable.
- Power off the controller.
- Press and hold the Q button for approximately 3 seconds to reconnect.
- For Bluetooth pairing, remove old QRD SPARK N5 pairing records from the console or device.
- Pair the controller again using the correct procedure for your platform.
For PS5 use, QRD SPARK N5 requires the QRD BlackPill PS5 Wireless Converter. Follow the official setup tutorial👉 How to Use QRD BlackPill PS5 Wireless Converter on PS5
Issue 3: Q Button Does Not Wake the PS5 Console
When QRD SPARK N5 is used with the QRD BlackPill PS5 Wireless Converter, the Q button cannot turn on or wake the PS5 console.
This is a converter-use limitation, not a Q button hardware defect.
Recommended Solution
- Turn on the PS5 using the console power button or a DualSense controller.
- Connect the QRD BlackPill converter to the PS5.
- Power on the QRD SPARK N5.
- Reconnect the controller through the BlackPill converter.
After the PS5 is already powered on, the QRD SPARK N5 can be used for supported gameplay control through the converter.
Issue 4: Q Button Malfunctions After Firmware Update
If the Q button stopped working after a firmware update, the update may have been interrupted or completed incorrectly.
Recommended Steps
- Download the QRD SPARK N5 firmware tool from the official firmware page.
- Use a Windows PC and a reliable USB cable.
- Follow the firmware instructions carefully.
- Do not disconnect the USB cable or close the firmware program during the update.
- After flashing, restart the controller and test the Q button again.

- Use a SIM ejector pin or straightened paperclip.
- Press and hold the RESET button for approximately 5 seconds while the controller is powered off.
