[V1.66] QRD Ferrox M5 Firmware Version 1.66 Release

[V1.66] QRD Ferrox M5 Firmware Version 1.66 Release

Important: Manual Joystick Calibration Required After Updating

Firmware V1.66 removes the automatic calibration function from the QRD FERROX M5 controller.

After the firmware update is completed successfully, the controller may temporarily show slight joystick drift because the automatic calibration function is no longer active.

This is normal after the first firmware update.

To ensure the joystick returns to the correct center position, please complete the manual joystick calibration once after updating the firmware.

After the first manual calibration is completed successfully, the joystick center position will be saved by the controller. Under normal use, the joystick will remain stable and should not experience drift again.

Watch the Manual Joystick Calibration Tutorial

After completing the firmware update, please watch the tutorial video below and perform manual joystick calibration once.

This step is required because Firmware V1.66 removes automatic calibration. Completing manual calibration helps the controller save the correct joystick center point and prevents joystick drift after the update.

Please do not skip this step.

Step 1: Prepare the Firmware Program
1. Visit the official website to download the latest firmware program file for QRD FERROX M5.
Before downloading, disable the computer’s firewall and all third-party antivirus software to prevent download failure due to program interception.
2. Locate the downloaded firmware file and double-click to launch it.
If a C++ error prompt appears when opening the file ->> Tutorial

Step 2: Connect the Controller to the Computer
1. Switch the back switch to "ON" and ensure the QRD FERROX M5 controller is completely powered off (no LED lights illuminated, in full standby mode).
2. Press and hold the [Y] button firmly and do not release it.
3. While holding [Y], connect the controller to a USB port on your computer using a USB cable.
4. Keep holding [Y] until the "UPDATE" button appears in the firmware program interface, then release the [Y] button.
(Note: Normally, the controller will not display any LED lights when successfully recognized by the computer.)

Step 3: Perform the Firmware Update
1. Once the "UPDATE" button is visible in the firmware program, click it to start the update.
2. Wait for the update process to complete. Do not disconnect the USB cable or close the firmware program during this period.

Step 4: Confirm Successful Update
The update is completed successfully when the controller reactivates its LED lights and power functions automatically. You can then disconnect the USB cable and use the controller normally.

Troubleshooting

Problem: Joystick Drift Appears After Firmware Update

Firmware V1.66 removes the automatic joystick calibration function from the QRD FERROX M5 controller.

After the first successful firmware update, the controller may temporarily show slight joystick drift because the joystick center position has not yet been manually calibrated.

This is normal and does not mean the controller is damaged.

Please continue to the manual joystick calibration tutorial below and complete the calibration once. After the first manual calibration is completed successfully, the controller will save the correct joystick center position and the joystick should remain stable during normal use.

Please do not skip this step after updating the firmware.

Problem: Controller Cannot Power On After Firmware Update

The controller may remain in firmware update mode if the Y button was still being held when clicking the UPDATE button.

During the update process, the Y button is only used to let the controller enter firmware update mode. Once the firmware program shows the UPDATE button, the controller has already been recognized by the computer.

At this point, you must release the Y button first, and then click UPDATE.

If you continue holding the Y button while clicking UPDATE, the controller may stay in update mode after the firmware update is completed, causing it to appear unresponsive or unable to power on.

Problem: C++ Error Appears When Opening the Firmware File

Some Windows computers may show a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error or Debug Assertion Failed error when opening the firmware update file. Especially certain laptops, Windows 7/8, or Windows 10 devices. ->> Tutorials

Recommended Solution

If a C++ error appears, please do not continue opening the firmware file directly.

Please follow these steps:

  2. Right-click the firmware EXE file.
  3. Open it with WinRAR or 7-Zip.
  4. Extract all files to a new folder, such as Desktop / FerroxM5_Update.
  5. Keep all extracted files in the same folder.
  6. Do not move or delete any files inside the folder.
  7. Right-click the update tool and choose Run as administrator.
